대총회와 북비주지회 지도자들 연석 합동회의 합의문

2017년 1월 19일(목) 매리랜드 주 실버스프링 소재 대총회(GC) 측 간부진(대총회장, 대총회 총무부장, 대총회 재무부장 등)과 북미지회(NAD) 측 간부진(북미주집회장, 북미주지회 총무부장, 북미주재무부장 등) 및 북미주전역 연합회장들 사이에 온 종일 연석 합동 회합을 열었다.

토의 주제는 교회정치와 여성안수(church governance and women’s ordination)에 관한 선교적 일치(연합)에 관한 이슈이었다. 이 양대 진영 사이의 회합에서는 성령을 통하여 그리스도에게 향한 헌신, 재림교회의 28개 기본신조(Beliefs), 재림교회의 마지막 때 예언적 사명, 및 전 세계적 교회조직을 확인하였다.

양측은 솔직한 의견 개진을 공개적으로 주고받는 토의를 나눈 후, 현재 재림교회가 당면하고 있는 도전적인 이슈들에 대하여 적극적으로 해결책을 강구하는 협의를 계속해 가기로 합의를 보았다.

우리 주님의 임박한 재림을 앞두고 온 세계를 준비시키기 위하여 일치하여 선교적 사명에 총력을 집중하여 전진하기를 기원한다.

The General Conference officers and the officers and union presidents of the North American Division met on Thursday, January 19, to discuss unity in mission as it relates to church governance and women’s ordination. The group affirmed their commitment to Christ through the Holy Spirit, the 28 Fundamentals Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, our prophetic end-time mission and worldwide church organization. After a candid and open discussion with frank interaction, the group agreed that there will be ongoing consultations to seek positive solutions to the challenging issues that the church faces. 

It is our prayer that the church will move forward in unity and focus on mission to prepare the world for the soon return of our Lord.

코멘트:

10년도 넘는 해 묵은 갈등 이슈를 두고 대총회와 북미지회 사이에서 이제 적극적으로 나서서 밀고 당기는 회의를 이어가겠다는 것은 현재 계류 중인 여성 안수 이슈에 관한 합의가 최종적으로 아직 이루어지지 않았다는 점을 시사하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 더구나 “솔직한”이라는 두 개의 단어 (candid, frank)가 한 문장에 나타난 것은 양 측의 의견 개진이 치열하였다는 분위기를 압축한 표현이 아니었나 하는 심증이 간다. 

맨 앞의 표제에서 시사하듯이 하루 종일 회의를 하였는데 연석회의가 내 놓은 성명서 내용은 너무나 짧다. 토의 초점을 북미지회 내 어떤 연합회들이 독자적으로 여성 안수를 인정한 것이 과연 28개 기본교리의 통일성을 유지하여 온 범세계적 교회 조직 체제와 조화시킬 수 있느냐 하는 난제를 풀어가야 하기 때문에 앞으로 논의가 주목된다.

신학적인 이슈를 놓고 상부기관 지도층과 하부기관 지도층 사이에 일치를 향한 의견개진을 나누어가는 모습은 갈등을 넘어 교회의 발전에 기여를 할 것으로 보인다.
